She is a goofy and loveable 11-year-old Labrador retriever mix. Kenya M. was brought in at the beginning of the month after a mass on the patient's spleen was discovered by Valley Veterinary Emergency & Referral Clinic. Kenya came in lethargic and could barely walk. Our Dr. Swisher and two talented technicians performed a splenectomy on the patient. While performing the surgery, there were a few difficulties, but Dr. Swisher and our technicians were up to the task. It was discovered that the mass on the spleen was a benign hematoma. Following surgery, Kenya returned to the clinic for two follow-up visits. At each visit, the patient was content and barking. The staff at Meadow Branch Animal Hospital are overjoyed to see our patient Kenya M. content and making a full recovery!
Dr. Házy traveled around the United States with her family as a child before settling in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. She received a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Liberty University before going to Virginia Tech to enter the dual DVM-PhD program in 2015. She studied traumatic brain injury at VT and earned a PhD in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences in 2019, publishing ten papers related to her work. After completing her DVM degree in 2022, Dr. Házy worked as an Associate Veterinarian at Valley Equine in Ranson, WV, for a year. This gave her experience in both routine and emergency equine medicine, and she is excited to apply her knowledge and experience to small animal medicine.
Dr. Házy enjoys all aspects of veterinary work including medicine and surgery. She prioritizes excellent patient care and is excited to join the team at Meadow Branch. Dr. Házy enjoys riding horses, reading, running, and spending time with her family. Dr. Házy officially joins the MBAH team July 24, 2023. She will be our primary veterinarian for wellness/preventive care appointments. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Házy and the knowledge and experience she brings to our practice! Due to the increased need for veterinary urgent, medical, and surgical care in our area, Meadow Branch Animal Hospital is shifting focus to alleviate this need. We are not currently accepting new clients for wellness/preventive care services. We will continue to provide these services to our established clients who have had consistent annual wellness visits since 2019.
Beginning September 2023, Dr. Swisher will no longer be scheduled for wellness/preventive care appointments. Dr. Swisher’s schedule will be limited to urgent, medical, and surgical appointments only. Dr. Melivilu will have limited availability for wellness/preventive care appointments, to allow more scheduling of surgical and medical cases. Dr. Amanda Házy, who will join the MBAH team at the end of July, will be the primary veterinarian to see our wellness/preventive care appointments going forward. We are fortunate to have skilled veterinarians and staff to offer high quality veterinary care across the spectrum of services. We look forward to this shift in focus and to the challenges and rewards of providing urgent medical and surgical care to patients in need, while still providing wellness/preventive care for our established clients. In order to minimize the spread of potentially contagious disease, we request that clients who have a pet with them please call the front desk, 540-450-8090, upon arrival. This will allow us to ensure we have an exam room ready for you and allows us to provide the best possible care for your pet while minimizing potential exposure to sick animals. If you do not have a pet with you, please feel free to proceed to our reception area for assistance.
A foreign object was extracted from Bo, a very handsome 5-year-old Mastiff's stomach. The foreign object was a silicone slow feeder for pets. Our talented technical staff & brilliant Dr. Swisher performed a gastrotomy to be able to retrieve the pieces of silicone. Bo is now back to being his young, goofy self nine days after this procedure. Owners stated that he simply reverted to his laid-back, fun-loving nature. At Meadow Branch Animal Hospital, we work hard to give each patient the best treatment possible. Bo’s remarkable recovery and his happy family have brought the staff much joy. Important fact to remember: Just because it's not edible, does not mean it’s not ingestible.
If your pet suffers from noise aversion, now is the time to discuss options to help!*
(*Physical examination may be required to dispense medication) Lady, a stunning 10-year-old hound, had a sizable renal mass. An exploratory laparotomy confirmed need of nephrectomy, which was performed by Dr. Marcelo, assisted by Dr. Swisher and our nursing team. Only nine days had passed since Lady's surgery, and at each of her follow-up appointments, the owners gushed about how well she had recovered. At Meadow Branch Animal Hospital, we take great satisfaction in giving our patients top-notch care. We are pleased to see the return of another content patient to their family.
